Leentjiesklip Langebaan.

It has been quite some time since we have been camping and therefore there have been no blog updates since November. The main reason for this is that I have been ill for the past month and a half. However I am now hopefully on the mend. I came out of hospital for the 3rd time on Monday 13th January and last week felt so much better that I decided we should do an "exploratory" trip to Langebaan to see if I could cope. Colleen has now retired so we can go any time we like and are not restricted to weekends.

The weather forecast looked good so we set off on a Tuesday for 3 nights, arriving fairly early at 11.00am. By 12.15 were fully setup in glorious weather and relaxed with a cold beer and a snack lunch of smoked snoek and salad. We had chose a site that we previously stayed on last June as it was nice and level with paving and still had a nice view of the lagoon. The sites nearer the waters edge are very popular but tend to be on a slope and fairly sandy.

Soon after we this, another couple, Wessel and Festha Conradie arrived that we know with their new Skipper Oyster and set up a few sites away from us. I was very impressed with the new model and had a good look at it while I gave them a bit of a hand in setting up. They had bought the option of an extended patio with side walls and I must say, the amount of space is marvellous.

The next morning dawned with no wind and again wonderful weather and we decided to take Colleen's Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) for a paddle. The waves were quite big on the beach in front of the campsite so we loaded it up and went to the public boat launch site further up the lagoon (The Palletjies) where it is usually much calmer.

Later in the day the South East wind came up strongly and we opted to go to a great local restaurant, Pearly's for supper rather than try and braai.

The next morning dawned cloudy and cool and we opted for a walk on the beach and just spent the rest of the day generally relaxing followed by a braai of a piece of whole fillet that we had bought at the local butcher and some salads. I took these photo's on our walk and during the rest of the day.

On Friday morning we awoke to rain. This is just part of camping! However it soon cleared up into another beautiful day. We felt our cats calling us and as soon as everything dried out we packed up and set off for home.

Leentjiesklip is a municpal campsite run by the Saldanha Municipality. The main ablution block is pretty old and run down but there is another smaller ablution block on the northern side that has been re-tiled and modernised a bit and therefore much nicer. The staff are very pleasant and keep everything spotlessly clean. There are sites with their own private ablutions and we had looked at these previously but they are pretty basic and old. The campsite fees are very reasonable and with a bit of pensioners discount, came to R89.00 per night. The entrance gate is manned by security 24 hours a day and secuity guards also patrol regularily.

Definitely one of my favourite desinations and only 100km from home.
